About this item
An elegant, reclaimed, cast iron fire surround, likely to date to the late Victorian / early Edwardian period. The fire surround has a fine period design and is in a style often found from the 1880s onwards. The surround has ornate scrolling detail on the legs and delicate flowers. The crossbar has panel detailing and some fluting. The back of the fire surround has a registered design number but it is now not readable. There is a fixing lug, on either side under the mantel, for attaching the surround to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and the surround has a nice finish.
The fire surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The iron has some small knocks, some casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel edge and cross bar. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an impressive size and could be paired with a fire basket or used to surround a wood burner. The fire surround has a fantastic period appearance and it would make a stunning feature in a room.
