About this item
A very elegant, reclaimed, Edwardian tiled cast iron and brass fire insert. The cast iron insert has a nice design with leaves and decorative detail on the border around the fire opening. The insert has an ornate brass smoke hood with flame torches, medallions and bows. The decorative detail of the hood has been polished. The insert has retained its original curved front bars which have brass urn finials on either side. The iron of the insert has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The fire insert comes with a clay fire back and iron fire stool. On either side of the fire opening there are attractive antique brick style green tiles. The back of the fire insert has a registered design number, believed to be RD481876, dating it to 1906.
The fire insert is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and wear. The iron has some knocks and casting marks. The tiles have crazing to the glaze. There are some small knocks and chips to the edges of the tiles and they have some marks and smoke staining. The brass hood has some tarnish. The back of the fire insert has some surface rust as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert is a very nice reclaimed item and a good example of Edwardian design. The fire insert would be a fantastic feature for a fireplace.
