About this item
Superb George III Welsh oak tack or cloak cupboard c.1780. Two door cupboard top, with a fixed centre panel, fitted inside with 13 turned wooden pegs for hanging coats etc (internal depth 17"). Separate base with three blind panels over five drawers. The top of the base is open allowing for extra hanging height inside. Very heavily constructed in solid oak throughout with traditional pegged construction. Moulded cornice with unusual mahogany crossbanding over very nicely shaped raised and fielded upper panels to the doors and an arch moulding to the centre. Crisp mouldings around the top of the base, raised and fielded panels (repeated from the lower door panels). Moulded edge to the drawers fronts and good quality Georgian pattern handles. Raised on shaped bracket feet at the front and sides. Oak panelled sides and rear to both sections, oak floor and drawer linings. Excellent colour and condition with some previous restorations. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
Could be easily fitted with a hanging rail if preferred or with shelves to make a large kitchen or housekeeper’s cupboard.
