About this item
Donald Wood (1859-1953) was a British painter of horses, dogs, sporting scenes and landscapes. He entered the painting "Jodhpur Ponies Ready for the Second Chukker" to the 1932 Los Angeles Art Competition. His obituary in The Times made particular mention of "Luxembourg Gardens" and "A la Crémerie, Rassay". Wood exhibited work in London and the provinces and his paintings are now in good collections throughout the world.
The present painting "Fourgon de Ravitaillement" shows a horse drawn supply carriage or provisions wagon. It is signed lower right and dated 1919 and is inscribed on the back with title "Fourgon de Ravitaillement". It is framed giving an overall size of about 10"x 14".
