About this item
Donald Wood (1859-1953) was a British painter of horses, dogs, sporting scenes and landscapes. He entered the painting "Jodhpur Ponies Ready for the Second Chukker" to the 1932 Los Angeles Art Competition. His obituary in The Times made particular mention of "Luxembourg Gardens" and "A la Crémerie, Rassay". Wood exhibited work in London and the provinces and his paintings are now in good collections throughout the world.
The present painting "Polo Ponies" is a wonderful example. An oil painting on canvas measuring 20"x 24" it is signed lower right and is framed in a good quality gilt frame giving an overall size of 28"x 32".
