About this item
A Farmyard Scene with Chickens and Rabbits signed Hunt, with back canvas J Bloom and Sons, Church Street, Norwich dating roughly c1900.
J Bloom and Sons, Church Street, Norwich were shipbuilders in 1898, doing sailcloth as well and apparently sold canvas's to the art world.
Being signed Hunt and most of his pictures of scenes like this would probably refer to Edgar Hunt - Edgar Hunt was a British painter known for his bucolic-scenes of domestic livestock. Hunt was devoted to animals and had originally planned to become a farmer, before experiencing success as a painter. Born in 1876 in Birmingham, United Kingdom into a family of artists, including his father Charles Hunt and brother Walter Hunt. Although he was never formally trained at an art school, Hunt was taught to paint by his father. The artist went on to exhibit at the Royal Society of Artists in London and at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He died in 1953 in Midlands, United Kingdom.
