About this item
A 19th Century Turned Fruitwood Box of Very Good Size & Colour With A Mother Of Pearl Label Inset To The Lid
English
Circa 1840
Measures:-
12.3 cm diameter x 3 cm high
A very attractive circular turned fruitwood box of an excellent size and with a particularly pleasing colour and patination. Probably conceived as a table snuffbox.
Very good condition. The lid and base beautifully engineered to perfectly slide together. An old and high-quality craftsman's repair letting in a little triangular section to the bottom rim - possibly undertaken by the initial wood turner to fix a chip or knot (this detail doesn't detract from the box but rather enhances it adding a charmingly detail to the overall patina).
