About this item
Two interesting and early Tibetan antiques, both c1800.
The first piece is a very large and heavy bronze/brass Tibetan Yak or Butter teapot,c1800.I have sourced many of these over the years but this is by far the best. It screams quality and it is huge , weighing 3kg.The decoration is lovely with a dragon handle and spout. The main body is decorated with Buddhistic panels. Overall condition is good given its age. The finial on the lid and the spout are wobbly when pressure is applied. There is minor discoloration and marking but all as you would expect from a piece that is more than 200 years old.
The smaller piece is a lovely early brass/copper Monks Ewer/pot as traditionally used in monastery's to serve Yak tea or sometimes wine, milk or beer. Again this is a quality example decorated with circular panels inset with coins/medallions and a lovely stylised handle in the form of a sea serpent. The spout is in the form of a 'Makara' Sanskrit for sea dragon. In Tibet it is sometimes referred to as the 'Chu Srin' an ancient mythological symbol.
