    About this item

An unusual and delightful Bow porcelain figure of a girl shepherdess standing on naturalistic mound on top of an asymmetric scrolled base with pierced detailing. She stands holding her apron scooped up in her left hand holding a joyful looking lamb inside. Her right arm is proffered open and probably originally held a posy. There is a small bocage to either side and a triangular shaped opening to the reverse. The base is decorated in pink and green enamel and gilt scrolls and the girl is coloured with pink, red and green enamel with blue touches and embellished with gilt to her apron fringe and bodice and to decorate open reserves over her skirt. Red anchor and dagger mark to the base, c.1762-1764.

It measures 17.8cm (7") high and 9cm (3 1/2") wide across the base.

Condition is very good. She has had a repair to her right arm at the elbow and the whole arm and hand below has been professionally touched in to match (a small section has flaked off). The porcelain appears essentially  sound underneath, I think just the very tips of her fingers have been tidied up where she has likely lost a posy. There are two areas of restoration work to the leaves on the base either side of her feet which are not very tidy. A few minor chips to the leaves of the bocage as usual.
