About this item
A well matched set of six mid 19th century (circa 1840) yew wood low back Windsor armchairs, five of the chairs matching with one very similar additional chair all of superb patina from the Rockley area of Nottinghamshire - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This set of chairs each consist of a hoop back leading down to a central pierced splat of stylised fleur de lys decoration with three turned spindles to either side.
The arms being supported by turned arm supports and spindles leading down to shaped elm seats supported by four turned legs joined with a crinoline stretcher.
These chairs are in excellent condition for age with evidence of some old repairs (which is to be expected), are of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
Examples of similar chairs can be found in the book 'The English Regional Chair' by Bernard D. Cotton pages 182-183
The sizes of these chairs do vary due to them being handmade and also wood moves over a period of years.
