    About this item

A very large, French copper casserole. This was probably, originally made for braising a large joint of meat. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper, has castellated seams around the base and up the side, and dates from c.1860. It is possibly blacksmith made as the handles, which have long, flat fittings, are quite unusual and not typical of any of the 19th century French manufacturers. We have not had this re-tinned, as the base does not sit flat, so it wouldn’t be ideal for use any more. However, it would make a very attractive bread bin. There is slight marking and pitting to the copper, from use, and there is a small dent on one corner of the base. Otherwise it is in good condition.

Dimensions: Length of pan 41.5cm. Width 29cm. Depth of pan 20cm. Overall length including the handles 52.5cm. Overall height including the handles 24cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £70. Most of Western Europe add £35.
