    About this item

This is an antique pocket barometer altimeter. An English, oak cased explorer's instrument by Hicks of London, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.

Delightful example of antique hiking or mountaineering interest. Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Brass pocket case presents deep golden tones. Charmingly housed within a later Alpine inspired case, held stay with sealed insert.

Dashing silvered dial presents beautifully with quality, slender needle. Annotated with a barometric scale from 21 to 31 inches of mercury. To the outer edge, the altimeter calibrated from zero to 10,000 feet. Marked 'J. Hicks, 8,9 and 10 Hatton Garden, London'
