A Burmese Lacquer Basket-Shaped Box (“Ok-Kwet”)
Mandalay or Pagan (Burma/Myanmar)
Black and red lacquer over a woven bamboo form
Circa 20th Century
Measures: 28 cm high x 27 wide x 21 cm deep
A black lacquer basket-shaped, three-part box, of bombé form with fluted sides beneath a fixed handle. The interior lacquered cinnabar red. The lid decorated with two birds, above an integral stacking oval-shaped tiered bowl. Used for the transportation and storage of provisions, or for the presentation of food offerings at a temple.
Good condition. Very slight wear to the foot commensurate with age.
