About this item

Late 18th.c oak settle c.1780. High backrest with four flat panels between moulded top rail and mullions. With broad straight arms with rounded ends on chamfered supports. Seat (height 18½") made from a single 14½" wide elm board with very attractive grain to the timber. Sturdy square oak frame and stiles, tapering and chamfered at the front. The holes in the rails below the seat at the front, rear and sides suggest it originally had a rope seat. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
