About this item
AN 18TH CENTURY WEST COUNTRY PINE BACON SETTLE. THIS HAS BEEN DECOMMISSIONED IN IT"S HISTORY WITH THE HINGED BACK BOARDED IN. WONDERFUL PATINATION WITH GOOD WEAR AND REMAINS OF ORGINAL VARNISH. THESE WERE KNOWN AS BACON SETTLES LARGELY BECAUSE OF THE DOORS TO THE BACK THAT WOULD OPEN TO STORAGE FOR FOOD IN THE KITCHEN, MOSTLY LIKELY CURING MEATS, OR USED AGAINST A STONE WALL IN FRONT OF AN ALCOVE IN WHICH THE MEATS WOULD BE KEPT FOR LATER USE.
