About this item
This is a large antique pew. A Scottish, oak ecclesiastical bench seat with Pugin-esque taste, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
Superb in proportion and finish, with overtones of Augustus Pugin's gothic revival sensibilities
Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Strong Scottish oak shows fine grain interest and an abundance of medullary rays
Beautiful caramel hues beam beneath a wax polish finish
Prominent carved trefoils adorn the apex of the stout stile supports
Twenty panel back rest beneath a full-width top rail with rolled edge
Lower legs finished with subtle shoulder carvings
Standing upon a trio of deep trestle feet, the central leg with concave profile
This is a delightful antique pew, with large proportion and superb seat width and height for several people to sit comfortably. Ideal for an institution, a hall way or in front of a large dining table. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
