About this item
A rare survival from the 19thc is this sailmakers turned needlecase, still containing his original needles and stamped with his initials on the lid R.A and carved with his full name Reuben Avis....there were a lot of "Avis" families living in England during the last quarter of the 19thc and most were in Sussex...which probably would account for me buying it in Sussex....the needlecase is in very good condition with a fine colour and no damage.
English. C1860-90.
