About this item
A late 19th century Mauchline ware novelty thread or reel holder in the form of a milk pail. A cotton reel or ball of thread is stored inside and there is a hole in the side through which the thread can be fed. The lid is decorated with a scene of children on a beach. Inside the lid is a label for James Chadwick Ltd, thread makers of Bolton.
