    A rare George III silver navette shaped snuff box by Peter Carter of London 1787. The box is covered with bright cut engraving. The hinge is tight and the lid snaps closed crisply. The interior is orginal gilding and there are hallmarks on the base and top. There are three inscriptions on the sides and base of the box. 1) From Mrs Eliza h Ford Madden "The noblest Mother in the World" 2) To Father Gahan Author "Catholic Piety" Obt 1804. 3) Now in Memory of Richard Robert Madden. Obt Feb. 1886 RIP. To Miss Lissy Cogan, Dublin. This is a box with a lot of history.
