About this item
A rare George III silver gilt snuff box with an all over cast basket weave design. Made in London in 1803, possibly by Mathew Linwood (makers mark is misstruck). The gilding is excellent with small amounts of rubbing on the corners. The interior has original gilding with a full set of hallmarks on the lip of the lid. There is an engraved message on the inside of the lid "from a very affectionate friend". The 11 part hinge is tight and the lid closes crisply. An exceptionally good snuff box.
