About this item
Anglo-Indian colonial period jewellery box dating from circa.1900. It is from the Vizagapatam region of India where craftsmen specialized in this type of finely decorated work. The box is veneered in ivory and tortoiseshell over a wooden base (perhaps sandalwood). There are finely pierced ivory panels along with flat panels having floral style detailing. Ivory strap work completes the edges and is stands on four paw feet. 16.5cms wide, 13cms deep and 8.5cms tall.
