About this item
This wax impression of a seal is housed in a turned lignum vitae box measuring 52 mm (2 inches) in diameter and 15 mm (19/32nds of an inch) thick. The coat of arms on the seal features two lions as supporters below a baron's coronet. Beneath the coat of arms is the Latin motto "Non quo sed quo modo" (Not for whom but in what manner) which is the motto of Baron Seaford of Sussex. The Baronetcy was created in 1826 and this seal might have been made around that date. The engravers label is missing from the inside of the lid. There is a 6 mm chip to the edge of the turned base as can be seen in the photos.
