This is a Syrian Heena enamel box from Damascus, made around the late 19th or early 20th century. The low round form, fitted lid and fired enamel decoration place it within the coloured copper work made in the city during the late Ottoman period.
The decoration is built around a blue ground with pink flower heads, turquoise drops, green details and a triangular border around the lid. The same enamel work continues around the body, so the pattern runs across the whole box rather than sitting only on the lid.
