About this item
An unusual and very attractive Edwardian bent-wood drapery box, dating to the early years of the 20th century. It originally held a purchase from J Milligan & Son Ltd, a high class drapers and milliners once situated in the town of Buxton in Derbyshire, and the name of that establishment is boldly printed on one end of the box. The lid is held in place with the original leather strap, which also acts as a carrying handle. The inside is lined with the original paper and there is a label inside the lid for Clements Newling & Co of London, makers of 'Fixtupe' boxes for drapery. Presumably they were the manufacturers of this box.
The box is in good original condition with wear commensurate with its age.
