A superb quality and rare early 19th century Vizagapatam sewing box. Of sarcophagus form, the lid having sun burst carved ivory and ebony with a turned finial, the sandalwood frame veneered in ivory and profusely decorated with shallow relief engraving with Indian ink highlights. The lid opens to reveal a removable tray containing the totally original interior with array of fittings. The box stands on the original turned ivory feet and retains its original key.
