Gilt Shoe, a Thimble box, A. Giroux, Supplier of French Court
A very neat display case, probably to receive a luxurious thimble on its bed of pink silk, in the shape of a fine shoe, chiseled and gilt brass,
opening by a spring latch. Signature engraved of: Alphonse Giroux, tabletier established rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré, Paris, who had made a specialty of luxury toys under the Restoration, supplier of all the Courts of France until the Second Empire ... A great character of French luxury ....
Dimensions: 9.5cm x 3.5cm x 2.8cm.
Good condition, dreamlike gilding and chasing, the upper rivet, not gilt, should be replaced.
