About this item
This ladies side opening tortoiseshell card case is inlaid with a nicely engraved silver decoration depicting flowers and foliage framing a rectangular space for the owners initials, which has been engraved with MMA. This pique pose work is inlaid into a darker coloured tortoiseshell which is surrounded by silver stringing, with the remainder of the case veneered in lighter coloured tortoiseshell. The reverse also features a central panel framed by silver stringing. The interior is lined with blue silk and has a fan, or concertina shaped pockets for the cards. This is made of blue card and the outer edges are gilded. The inner edges of the two sides are lined with ivory. The length is 110 mm (4 3/8ths inches), the width is 80 mm (3.25 inches) and it is 18 mm (.75 inches) thick. It is in very good condition. C1860.
