    About this item

The front of this book shaped card case features an engraved, thin silver mount on green watered silk in a silver frame. The spine is dark green velvet. The back is a solid piece of Mother-of -pearl, also in a silver frame. The interior is lined in pink watered silk, where there is a compartment for cards and a removeable notebook also bound in the same material. Closing the case is done with a pencil inserted into loops attached to the front and back. Fortunately the pencil is still there, but unfortunately it has lost its finial. The first 3 pages of the notebook contains a hand written list of music played at a function in 1846. Also contained in the case is a small folded almanac listing important social, historical and religious dates in English history, as well as a small folded list of French saints days for 1845. The silk on the front is badly discoloured and inside there are signs of wear. It measures 102 mm (4 inches) in height, 68 mm (2.75 inches) in width and it is 10 mm (3/8ths of an inch) thick. It would date from the early to mid 1840's.
