About this item
A beautiful small dome-top chest or trunk dating to the mid 19th century. It is simply made of wood and is covered with floral patterned wallpaper contemporary with its construction. It has leather hinges and a hinged iron handle to the top - originally it also probably had similar handles at the sides. It has its original lock, but no key; I doubt that the lock would still function anyway. The inside is lined with the original polka dot paper. There are ribbon supports to stop the lid falling back - these are newer replacements. This gorgeous little trunk is a rare survivor from the middle of the 19th century. I can be quite accurate about its age because parts of two registration diamond marks can be seen on the wallpaper inside the chest, one with a number in the bottom corner, meaning that it dates to between 1842 and 1867. The registration marks also confirm its origin as British.
It is in generally good original condition with wear commensurate with its age.
