    Leather Concertina Business, Visiting or Calling Card Case
    Victorian, 19th Century
    Dark blue/black morocco leather 
    With a brass closing catch 
    Lined with purple silk moiré
    Folding concertina
    English, Circa 1870s

    Measures 8.8 long x 4.7 cm wide x 1 cm deep

    Dark blue/black morocco leather impressed with a rectangular tooled border. Catch opens to a "concertina" inside, with gilded edges to fan out the cards. Enough space within for 10 business cards measuring 1.5" x 3" (3.8 x 7.6 cm (approx.)) Impressed text on the silk reads "One Card Only To Be Put In Each Pocket". A packet of 50 standard-size, blank "Alabaster" cards is included with the case.

    Very good condition. Slight wear over 150-or-so years. Very slight frit on one edge. A beautiifully designed and delicately refined case. Eminently practical and usable and suitable for a man or a woman.
