An excellent antique Mauchline Ware souvenir trinket box depicting Sandringham House in Norfolk. The house was acquired by Queen Victoria in 1862 for £220,000 on behalf of her eldest son and heir the Prince of Wales, Albert Edward (1841–1910) (later Edward VII). Various modifications were made and the Prince and his wife Princess Alexandra took up residence in time for Christmas 1870 with the house becoming their main country retreat.

The Prince developed the estate to include some of the finest shooting in the country. The presence of the Royal Family and their illustrious guests brought great wealth and interest to North Norfolk and would have necessitated the manufacture of such souvenir products as this Mauchline Ware box. The lid shows a horse drawn carriage arriving at the main entrance to the house, observed by various onlookers.

Good condition, some age related marking. Loss the the thumb-catch as frequently encountered on these boxes.
