    About this item

This antique circa 1880s, bull mouth shell cameo is set in a pinchbeck frame.  The cameo is in excellent condition and depicts the goddess of youth, Hebe who is seen bearing a dish filled with water for her father, Zeus, who is sometimes depicted as an eagle, symbolising immortality and regeneration.
Cameos were popular in the Grand Tour days when tourists visited Rome and other Italian cities.  Cameos often depicted gods and goddesses from mythology and were a favourite of Queen Victoria.

The cameo can be removed from the bracelet and worn as a pendant or a brooch. So is very versatile.

    Cameo measurements:

    bracelet length: 20cms

    cameo with mount:  5.4cm h x 4.5cm w

    cameo itself: 4.1cm h x 3.2cm w
