About this item
This is a pair of antique decorative lamps. An English, bronze table light with ancient Roman influence from the famous Townley Vase, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Superb bronze homage to the Townley Vase, a large Roman vase of the 2nd Century Ce. The marble vase with krater overtones was discovered in 1773 beneath a villa south east of Rome. It was sold to the British Museum in 1805.
Striking lamps with a fascinating historical influence. Displaying a desirable aged patina throughout. Attractive bronze presents wonderful amber tones. Distinctive volute handles and high relief decoration.
The bulbous form accentuated with a relief scene of Pan and Bacchus dancing. Wonderfully heavy lamp bases with a weight of 6.67 kg (14.7 lb). Supplied with quality shades, bulbs and a bayonet light fitting. Generous length of quality cable with British Standard compliant 3-pin plug.
This is a dashing pair of antique decorative lamps. Accentuated with a Bacchic scene of dancing revellers, the classical taste will appeal to collectors of historic interest. Delivered polished and ready to illuminate.
