    About this item

A brass and steel milliners iron in the shape of a cosmos flower or dahlia. This type of iron was used for making shapes out of felt or lace as ornamentation for hats. The fabric was washed and starched and put into the brass section. The steel iron was heated and then pushed into the brass section. The fabric would then be trimmed and the result was a beautifully shaped hat decoration.

This iron is very well detailed and it is in excellent condition. It is marked, in the casting, with the initials “E L” and a number “257”. It dates from c.1880.

Overall Dimensions: Length 23.2cm. Width 7.5cm. Height 4.4cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
