Large, cast brass skimmer c.1680
A large, late 17th century, cast brass, pierced skimmer with fishtail end to handle. This type of skimmer was used in the kitchens, for skimming stocks and preserves, and also in the dairy for skimming cream. This example is cast in one piece and has a makers mark, in the form of a cross within a circle, at the end of the handle near to the skimmer.
The rim of the skimmer is very slightly misshapen. Otherwise it is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Length 60.5cm. Diameter of skimmer 19cm.
