About this item
This is a wonderful late Iron Age British Celtic bronze clothing toggle, dating to the 1st century AD. This 'toggle' or 'Button and loop fastener' would have been used to secure leather harness or heavy fur clothing. The toggle has a rectangular head that is drilled for three cells. All cells would have contained enamel, but only one now contains a degraded and colourless material. Similar examples have been recorded LIN-740155 and DENO-ED2004, Ref: Mills, Celtic & Roman Artefacts. p. 69. fig, RC 187, RC 188.
