This is a vintage art bronze. A French, fine cast sculpture of a lion and serpent, after Antoine-Louis Barye, dating to the mid 20th century, circa 1950.
In the manner of one of the early 19th century's foremost animalier - or animal sculptor - Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875)
Highly appealing rendition of the 'Lion au Serpent' of 1832 and later
Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Quality, fine cast bronze shows appealing tonality and superb detail throughout
Fine mane detail and muscular haunches a delightful study of natural interest
The brave serpent, head reared defiantly against his fate beneath the large beast
Presented upon a thick, oval plinth of Belgian Black marble
Signed to front A. Barye in homage to the distinguished original artist
