About this item
This early 20th-century vase is an exceptional example of the cloisonné technique, likely dating to the Chinese Republic period. Standing 27 cm tall, the vessel features a rare and striking black monochrome ground that serves as a dramatic backdrop for its intricate gilt decorations. The surface is meticulously adorned with gilt scrollwork and spirals, which wrap around the form to create a sense of continuous motion and beauty.
The craftsmanship is particularly evident at the base, where the design transitions into elongated feather motifs that encircle the foundation of the vase. Presented on a traditional wooden stand, the piece balances its significant height with a refined silhouette that highlights the precision of the gilt wirework. It is a sophisticated piece that reveals more detail the closer it is inspected.
Condition
The vase has survived in good condition with the black enamel ground and gilt motifs showing no signs of significant wear.
