About this item
A Victorian MIZPAH silver brooch hall marked Chester, England 1891.
In the Victorian era the practice of engraving brooches and rings with the word "MIZPAH" grew in popularity. The word is Hebrew and means "watchtower" loosely interpreted as "May God watch over you" and the jewellery is meant to be given as a token of love or friendship.
Engraved along the front edge is: "The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another"
In very good condition.
