A late Regency Gillows birds eye maple davenport desk, The top with brass gallery above a sloping leather covered lid which opens to reveal an interior with two top drawers and one bottom drawer which has a locking device for the ink drawer. The sliding top has a candle or book slide either side below it , three opening drawers on the right hand side , the top of which is stamped Gillows Lancaster, and dummies on the left hand side. The davenport is fnished at the back with centre panel , the base with a deep mould above turned feet with sunken brass castors. Great colour and a useful piece of furniture with top class Gillows cabinet making.English Circa 1825. The writing height is 29 ins and 26 ins of legroom.
