About this item
This very finely modelled bust, entitled "Tourangelle", is made of high fired biscuit porcelain and is by the noted French sculptor Georges Delperier (1865-1936). She wears an elaborate bonnet on her head, with one shoulder bare and the other covered with vine leaves and grapes. Both the name of the bust and the sculptors signature are shown. The plaster mould that this bust was cast in was made up of several pieces, and as it was used the edges of the parts became slightly worn leaving a faint mark on the finished product where the pieces met, and so there is a very faint line running up from her left breast to the side of her face showing where the two parts met. The width is 198 mm (7 7/8ths inches), the height 193 mm (7 5/8ths inches) and it is 112 mm (4.5 inches). It is in very good condition and would date from around 1905.
