A fine quality early 19th century (circa 1810) French bronze bust of Napoleon supported on marble base, after an original bust of Emperor Napoleon (1769-1821) by Antonio Canova (1757-1822) - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This bronze bust of Napoloeon is a fine example and is supported on a sienna marble base with bronze eagle and wreath decoration – the French Imperial Eagle and wreath being emblems of Napoleon.
Antonio Canova, the most celebrated Neoclassical artist in Europe, created a full size colossal marble statue of Napoleon as 'Mars Pacificus' and a bust was later derived from this statue.
Provenance: Private collection: Jenny Simpson, Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
This bronze is in very good condition for age and can go straight into a home or collection.
