    About this item

This is an antique roll-over butter dish. An English, silver plated breakfast tureen or server, dating to the Victorian period and later, circa 1870.

Striking dome topped serving dish with later ladle - an admirable centrepiece. Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order. Decades of sympathetic polishing offers a beautifully reflective quality to the silver plate. Engraved with a superb heraldic 'P' monogram to front of lid.

Fascinating dome lid retracts smoothly, nesting around itself - distinctive lobe pull aids access. Cut-out for the ladle handle set within the trailing edge of the lid when closed. Removable butter tray with attractive pierced diamond shaped fretwork, sat upon a drip tray below. Ideal for keeping butter, sauces, heating peas or other vegetables.

Pair of ornate handles with a delightfully gadrooned finish

Standing upon a slender quartet of dashing cabriole legs with beaded pattern. Maker's emblem to the underside of the dish and butter tray in the form of an urn. Later, Edwardian ladle engraved with a swan emblem, the Army and Navy Co-operative maker's mark to reverse.

This is a delightful antique butter dish, ideal for the breakfast table. Eye-catching silver plate and ornate detail. Delivered polished and ready to serve.
