About this item
One of the best small 16thc Brass Candlesticks I have purchased...it is a real little gem...it stands only 5.50 inches high and has a deep socket with a large circular aperture...( this is a good indicator of date as the earlier candlesticks had large rectangular apertures and around C1550 to C1580 they changed to the large circular apertures you see in this example) . The central stem is a "tear-drop" baluster knop and it stands on a slightly raised broad base....underneath the stem has been "peened" over to fix to the base and the desirable lathe marks are clearly seen where it has been "cut" back and finished....
French. C1550-C1580.
