About this item
A superb example of a late 17thc cast brass single candlestick...it stands on a high stepped base which gives it a diminishing plinth effect and is scalloped around the edge of the base....the central stem has one large knop which is below a large candle socket....the base and the central stem with socket are cast separately .....the central stem and socket are then joined to the base by "peening" over the bottom of the stem and the underneath of the base is cleanly turned and scraped....it is always pleasing to see the core plug that is used in the casting....(see close up picture of the socket).....overall in very good condition.
Flemish. C1670-90.
