About this item
A superb example of a mid 18thc brass Taperstick, which would have been used on the desk of a gentleman to soften sealing wax for sealing up letters.....very difficult to find such good examples of these sought after candlesticks....this one dates to around 1740 with classic round base and seamed stem ...it has a little solder underneath applied along time ago to tighten the stem to the base as with use it would have come a little loose....but it is in excellent condition with an attractive mellow colour.
English. C1740-50.
