About this item

A charming piece of British railway history, heavy duty in construction, this good size storage trunk settle originates from the Leicestershire railway line.

With four individual hinged sections to the lid. To the interior are sections which could have been locked to secure tools and items used by the station master / signalmen etc.

Its hefty and well built design allowed the oversized chest to double up as a seat, most likely used by the railway station staff during tea break.

Its painted surface nicely time worn with the stunning overlaying blue revealing older layers of historic paint, and the grain of the timber.

To the interior are hand written pencil inscriptions which details some of the piece's history. These interesting and insightful notes show at which railway lines the storage box was located and used during its lifetime.

Noted locations include Old Dalby, Ashfordby, Holwell Iron Co.

A wonderful and very useable piece for the home, with so much character, useful internal storage and fascinating history.

This would make a great additon to a kitchen / dining space, the perfect talking piece with dual use both seating and storage.

A complete one off, and a must for any railway enthusiast.
