About this item
A very fine quality original reclaimed cast iron fire insert, dating to the early Victorian period. The insert is of a nice size and has a very ornate appearance with beautiful acanthus leaf designs on each of the top corners and within the fire opening. The insert has an arched opening with arched panels on each of the openings sides. The insert has retained its curved front bars with very pretty flower detailing below them. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire insert has a kite dating mark, dating it to July 1846.
The insert is in good solid condition with some signs of wear commensurate with age. The insert has some small knocks, casting marks and pitting throughout. There is some light surface rust on the front bars. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The insert is a very fine example of early Victorian design and is of a nice size. The insert is the perfect item for adding period character and charm to a fireplace.
