About this item
A reclaimed cast iron fire trim with fire back. The fire trim is likely to date to C.1900 and has a classic and elegant design with simple border detailing. The trim is bolted to an antique cast iron fire back with clay back and a cast iron grill. The fire back has retained its shaped front bars and there is decorative detailing around the top of the clay back. The trim would originally have been surrounded by tiles that were affixed to the wall and then paired with a fire surround. The fire trim is of a size to accommodate 17 fire tiles around it (including a half tile at the base of each side). Please note, no tiles are included in the listing.
The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very nice finish. The trim and back are in good antique condition with some signs of age, as expected. The back of the fire has surface rust. The clay fire back has some cracks, knocks and a break but it is stable within the strap at the back. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. There is no top plate. We could perhaps make a metal top plate to fit the fire back, for an extra charge. Please contact us to discuss this and for a quote. Please see pictures for condition details. The trim is of a classic and simple design, ideal for both modern and period homes and it would add character to a hearth.
