    About this item

A pretty, reclaimed, slim cast iron fire insert. The fire insert is likely to date to the late Victorian period, 1890-1900, and has a design typical of the era. The insert has a large Adam style motif on the flat smoke hood, featuring an urn, swags and bows. The outer edges of the insert have  a pretty repeated flower border and there is a delicate border around the fire opening. The insert retains its original front bars and grill. The back of the insert is quite shallow and therefore good for a hearth with a shallower cavity space. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. Please note, the insert is missing the top plate. We can supply a top plate, either in wood sprayed black or we may be able to find a suitable metal one. Please contact us to discuss how you wish to use the insert as the wooden top plate is only suitable if the fire insert is for decorative purposes only.

The fire insert is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some damage, as expected. The iron has some scratches, casting marks and pitting. There is some surface rust to the back of the fire. The fire brick has a large crack that has been filled and is solid. There are some cracks to the metal at the back of the insert that hold the brick. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert has a very nice traditional appearance and will make a lovely feature in a period home.
